NCH Heart Institute is a comprehensive consultative and diagnostic cardiology practice. We focus on personalized, compassionate patient care while utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and techniques.
A vital part of the management and diagnosis of coronary artery disease, nuclear stress testing allows us to assess and manage CAD non-invasively, effectively risk-stratifying patients and identifying those who need invasive cardiac catheterization and coronary stenting.
Echocardiography, ultrasound imaging of the heart, is another primary diagnostic tool essential for the management of cardiac disease. It allows us to identify cardiac structure and function, again non-invasively, guiding diagnosis and therapy.
Once appropiately identified by stress testing or high risk patient symptoms, invasive coronary artery imaging via cardiac catheterization can be life-saving. This often leads to the implantation of coronary artery stents to open blocked arteries.
We can perform routine pacemaker and ICD (implantable defibrillator) check-ups. We also monitor and evaluate cardiac rhythm abnormalities with 24 hour Holter monitors and 30 day event monitors.
Using the quick and convenient finger-stick lab test right in our office, we monitor and manage a large number of patients taking Coumadin (warfarin) anticoagulation (blood thinner), often in the setting of atrial fibrillation or prosthetic valve replacement.
Though much of our time and effort involves diagnosing and treating established cardiac disease, prevention remains a priority. Hypertension (high blood pressure), Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), Diabetes and Smoking are main risk factors in developing heart disease. We aggressively diagnose and intervene in such risk factors before overt problems arise.
